Questions before takeoff?
Still deciding? We're happy to help.
Contact usWhat is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM. Instead of putting a plastic card in your phone, you scan a QR code and your phone downloads the plan. Nothing gets shipped to you, and there is nothing to swap when you land.
Will my phone work with LeafySIM?
Most phones from the last five years support eSIM, including an iPhone XS, XR or newer, a Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, or a Google Pixel 3 or newer. It also has to be carrier-unlocked, since a locked phone cannot add a second network no matter how new it is.
Not sure about yours? Open Settings and look for an option to add an eSIM or cellular plan, or dial *#06# and check whether your phone lists an EID. You can also look your model up on this list of eSIM capable devices. If you are still unsure, ask us before you buy.
Which countries do you cover?
200+ countries and regions. Every plan lists the exact countries it covers, along with the data and how long it lasts, before you buy.
If you are visiting more than one country on the same trip, check the regional plans. They cover a group of countries on a single eSIM, so you are not buying and installing a new one at every border.
How much data do I need?
It depends on what you actually do on your phone while you are away. Maps, ride shares, and messaging use comparatively little data, so a 1GB plan suits travelers who mostly need the basics covered. Streaming, video calls, and uploading photos use much more, so look at 3GB or higher if that is you.
If you guess low, most plans let you top up mid trip, so it is not a decision you are locked into.
How do I get my eSIM after I buy?
By email, within minutes of your order going through. You will get a QR code plus the installation steps for your device. There is nothing to ship and nothing to pick up.
When should I install it?
Before you fly, while you still have Wi-Fi at home. Installing does not start your plan, so there is no reason to wait, and it means you are not trying to scan a QR code in an airport with no connection.
When does my plan start counting down?
When the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination. Buying early or installing early does not use up any of your days or any of your data. The clock starts when you land and switch it on.
Can I still get calls and texts on my normal number?
Yes. Your regular SIM stays in your phone and stays on your account, so calls and texts keep working the way they always do. Just switch data off on that line so you are not roaming on it.
LeafySIM plans are data only. They do not come with a phone number and they do not send or receive standard calls or SMS. Calling through WhatsApp, FaceTime, or any other app works fine, because those run on data.
Can I share the connection with my laptop?
Yes. Hotspot and tethering work on our plans, the same as any other mobile data connection. Bear in mind that anything you share comes out of the same data allowance.
What happens if I run out of data?
Most plans can be topped up. Your order email includes a link to your eSIM page, and you can buy more data there without reinstalling anything.
One thing worth knowing: you cannot top up once a plan has expired. If you are running low near the end date, add the data before it runs out rather than after.
Do I need to cancel anything when my trip is over?
No. Plans are prepaid and they simply end. There is no subscription, no auto renewal, and no bill waiting for you when you get home.
What if my trip changes or I picked the wrong plan?
If you have not installed the eSIM yet, contact us and we will refund it. That covers a cancelled trip, the wrong amount of data, or finding out your phone does not support eSIM.
Once an eSIM has been installed on a phone we cannot take it back, so it is worth confirming your device before you set it up.
Something is not working. Who do I talk to?
Get in touch and we will help you sort it. Include your order number and what your phone is showing you, and we can usually spot the problem straight away.
