What is an eSIM?
A digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of swapping a plastic chip, you install a data plan over the internet. Your physical SIM and phone number stay in place and keep working.
Will my phone work?
Most phones from the last five years support eSIM, including iPhone XS, XR or newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, and Google Pixel 3 or newer. It also has to be carrier-unlocked, since a locked phone cannot add a second network. Not sure about yours? Open Settings and look for an option to add an eSIM, or dial *#06# and check for a listed EID.
Will I lose WhatsApp or my phone number?
No. Your home SIM stays in the phone and your number stays active. WhatsApp, iMessage and your apps keep working exactly as before. The eSIM only carries your data while you travel.
When should I install it?
Before you fly, on your home WiFi. The plan's clock does not start until you arrive and connect at your destination. Every plan has a 180-day window to activate, so you can buy anytime before your trip.
