A LeafySIM Mexico eSIM runs on Telcel and AT&T, so you get the network with the widest reach in the country and a second one alongside it. It covers Mexico City, Cancún, the Riviera Maya, Guadalajara and Monterrey. Install it from a QR code before you fly and it works when you land. Plans run 1GB to 20GB.

Where your Mexico eSIM actually works

Your plan connects to Telcel and AT&T Mexico, and Telcel is the one that matters most here. It carries about 55% of Mexico's mobile connections, reaches 86.7% of the population on 4G with 5G in 125 cities, and runs on 700 MHz, which is the spectrum that gets indoors and out into the countryside. AT&T sits alongside it at around 69% of the territory on 4G and posts 45 to 80 Mbps in Mexico City.

Mexico City, Cancún's hotel zone, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Monterrey are all comfortable on either.

Carrying Telcel is what settles the two places this page used to warn about. Highway 307 between Playa del Carmen and Tulum has spots where AT&T drops and Telcel holds, and you now have Telcel. Isla Holbox is effectively a Telcel island, and you have Telcel there too.

The honest limit is the terrain rather than the plan. The Sierra Madre, deep Oaxaca and Chiapas are the thinnest parts of the country for every operator. Telcel is the one with the best chance out there, on Opensignal's reliability and coverage scoring, and it is the one you are on.

What data actually buys you in Mexico

Live traffic in Mexico City, which is a genuinely different city with and without Waze. DiDi and Uber at night instead of flagging a cab. Translation on a comedor menu in Oaxaca. And being reachable on WhatsApp, which is how Mexican hosts, drivers and tour operators confirm everything.

How much data you need in Mexico

Plan on 3GB to 5GB a week for normal use. The 5GB at $22.49 covers a standard week or ten days. The 3GB at $14.99 suits a long weekend in CDMX. Go to 10GB at $39.99 for a two week trip with heavy maps and uploads. The 1GB at $5.99 runs 7 days and is a resort-and-airport plan.

What this plan does not do

Data only. No Mexican number, no regular calls, no SMS. DiDi and Uber drivers will message you in-app, which works on data. Keep your home SIM on for bank codes with its data off.

What it costs next to roaming

Verizon's TravelPass and AT&T's International Day Pass both run $12 a day, so ten days in Mexico is $120 before you use anything. The cheapest route a US carrier gives you is T-Mobile's 10 day International Pass at $50 for 15GB. The 5GB Mexico plan is $22.49, so the gap here is narrower than on most destinations.

The networks you'll ride

Your eSIM connects to the destination's real carriers and picks the strongest signal automatically. We publish this because most resellers won't.

FAQ

Good to know before you fly

When does the clock start?

When your eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, not when you buy it and not when you install it. Install it before you fly, on your home WiFi; the plan starts when you land.

Can I top up if I run out?

Yes, on most plans, any time before it expires. Buy a top-up from your order page and it applies to the eSIM you already installed, no reinstalling required.

Is there a phone number included?

No, this is a data-only eSIM. Your own number stays active on your home SIM for calls and texts, and apps like WhatsApp and FaceTime work over data as usual.

When should I install it?

Before you fly, on your home WiFi. Every plan has a 180-day window to activate, and the clock does not start until you actually connect at your destination.
